Washington Ave in the Springtime…

I suspect that I will be among many friends tomorrow who will be experiencing Spring Fever at it’s most feverish. That’s if the weather forecast (50’s and sunny) isn’t but a cruel joke.

My thought is this: if every business on Washington Ave. would invest a teeny amount of money in getting a couple of 1/2 whiskey barrels ($9.99 each at Big Lots I believe) and a couple of plants for each of them, how much would that improve the appearance of The Avenue?

Many years ago, I visited Quebec, Canada, and was told that government gave some sort of incentive to people to plant window boxes. What a great idea! At any rate, that is one of the reasons we are looking for someone with a green thumb to volunteer with the theatre. One of their duties would be to maintain the flowers boxes we intend to put out in front of the theater this spring. Enjoy the show!

Mad Sponsorship

Hi everyone,

We need some “mad” sponsorship!  (“mad” has apparently replaced the word “major”) On March 29th, EPAC officially kicks off their Ten Year Gala-Bration with “Greasemania,” a 50’s style sock hop with live band as well as a DJ, food, games, raffles  and contests.  We are looking for some “mad” prizes that would be appropriate as well as coveted by kids ages 6 and up.  Some suggestions have been iPods, iTunes gift cards & music store gift cards, but anything would be appreciated!

Part of EPAC’s mission is to promote and enhance local community arts groups and performing artists.  Pat Foti (our artistic director) and myself are always open to proposals from performing artists and groups about an original idea or project that they might like to showcase here at the Endicott Performing Arts Center.   We do have a number of resouces that could be ver helpful in putting together and promoting a project or idea.

We encourage anyone who has such an idea to contact us by calling the theater (785-8903) or by emailing us (EPAC@EndicottArts.com). 

Don’t hesitate!  Just do it.

Tanglefoot rocks and so do our Volunteers!

WOW!!! What a great concert!! This is the 9th appearance of Tanglefoot here at the EPAC Theater and they continue to blow the doors off the place! The return of Rob Ritchie to the group joining Steve, Al, Sandra, and Terry, just pushes the group to another level!

Many thanks to Bill, Phil and Chris Becker (lighting & sound), Roz & Phil Hammer (Ushers), and Ed Arnold (and Brett & Eve) for helping out in concessions.

I continue to marvel and feel gratified to be able to present such genuine talents to our community…

Tanglefoot and acting lessons and updates, oh my!

Check out what’s happening at EPAC!   This Sunday, Feb. 24 at 3PM TANGLEFOOT In CONCERT! The Endicott Performing Arts Center located at 102 Washington Avenue in Endicott continues its Concert Series with the return of the thunderous Canadian folk group “Tanglefoot” in concert at the EPAC Theater, 102 Washington Avenue, in Endicott on Sunday, February 24 at 3:00 PM. Named “Vocal Group of the Year” in the 2007 Canadian Folk Music Awards, Tanglefoot is a thunderous live band with a reputation for spectacular vocal harmonies. It is also a band of adept songwriters who specialize in portraying the Canadian experience. Intelligent, well-written folk-influenced songs played with hell-bent, rampaging abandon may be why Tanglefoot was once described as “Stan Rogers meets Van Halen.” Their monumental acapella song Vimy” resulted in an invitation to the 90th Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge and dedication of the restored memorial at Vimy, France on April 9, 2007 – while at the same time the Canadian Celtic Choir was singing Tanglefoot’s song at the Vimy Vigil on Capitol Hill in Ottawa. EPAC & Chris Nickerson present an ADULT ACTING WORKSHOP The Endicott Performing Arts Center located at 102 Washington Avenue in Endicott is proud to announce the beginning of an Adult Acting Workshop to be given by local actor Chris Nickerson.Classes will be held on the first Monday of six consecutive months beginning at 7PM, March 1, 2008 at the EPAC Theater, 102 Washington Avenue in Endicott. Classes will last about 2 hours each and are open to ages 17 and older.Chris is a graduate of Binghamton University and has studied with The Acting Studio in New York City. He has performed in over 70 plays and musicals and has worked in commercials and film. Chris has received an “Outstanding Artist” Award from the Kennedy Center and has won a number of “Best Actor” awards from Arizona Theater including a nomination for a “Zoni” (State Theater Awards of Arizona). He also appeared in the film “Inte-state 60″ with James Margden, Chris Cooper, and Gary Oldman.The Actor’s Workshop will consist of Acting Exercises, Theatre Games, Monologue and Scene Study Classes. The focus of the classes will be to free up the actors body and mind. This freedom will allow actors to remain in the moment and completely express a character’s feelings.The actors will also be asked to meet as pairs between classes to develop a strong, trusting, working relationship and to become familiar with the acting exercises. Chris will also meet, time permitting, with pairs of actors during the scene study portion of the workshop. The cost of the workshop is $75 per student. Is there a Cleaner in the House?

Some people spent the day watching the Indie 500 yesterday. Some people spent it going to church and then breakfast. But some people, like our wildly devoted volunteers, spent it fighting mold and mildew at EPAC! Talk about Terror in the Theater! Two volunteers I’d like to give special recognition to are Terri Bojan and her son Alex. (I guess we’d have to say, yesterday it was “Terri in the Theatre” , haha. )

While they watched the cafe’ during a rental, Terri and Alex gave Lou a hand with some early preparation for our Gala in May. Lou started cleaning his office on the second floor, beginning with taking down all the pictures and program books from oh, about the last ten years! There was a just a teensey-weensey bit of dust on them, you might say. So, we gave the whole pile of them to the Bojan team, who sorted through them and dusted them off. We now have a program book from each show ever done at EPAC and we also have quite a few to auction off at our Gala Silent Auction Fundraiser. Terry and Alex also cleaned the glass on all of the pictures, so you can actually see the picture itself again! Thank you Bojans and also Deb Salzman who lent a hand !

EPAC enters the 21st Century!

Hi everyone, TJ here. You know, Lou’s wife. Yes, Lou has a wife, and it isn’t Annie Liguori.! By the way, Carly Liguori isn’t his daughter either! LOL.

So, we are preparing to celebrate EPAC’s first decade as a very busy performing arts center! Just think, it’s been ten years since Bob Corwin approached Lou Ligouri and Pat Foti about reviving the old Towne Theatre, and ten years since the formation of “The Dirty Dozen,” our core group of volunteers; without their blood, sweat and tears, EPAC would still be just a dream. If you go the “History and Renovations” section of the website, you can see some great before-during-after pictures of the theatre as it went through it’s growing pains to become the elegant old gal that she is today.

I’ve updated the website recently, but as soon as I can get a handle on using Flash, we’ll have a really spiffy new website that you’ll be extra-proud to send your friends to visit.

I’m hoping this blog will become a wealth of information about all things EPAC. Drop us a line and let us know what you think.
